Multiple Sclerosis
MS (Multiple Sclerosis) is an autoimmune disease that affects the body’s immune system. Normally the immune system aims to destroy foreign substances from the body, but when affected by MS, the immune system begins to target and destroy healthy normal tissues.
A wheelchair may be needed on a daily basis for someone who suffers from MS. Loss of balance and weakness in the limbs creates a situation where the individual must use some type of aid on a daily basis to get around their home or outdoors.
A manual wheelchair may suffice for someone suffering from MS if they are able to push themselves without assistance. But if they are experiencing severe MS, they may have to be pushed by a caregiver, since they can no longer use strength to propel the chair.
