Automatic Toilet Flushing for Wheelchair Users

Wheelchair users can range from the elderly, the handicapped or even wounded soldiers who need a wheelchair for mobility purposes. When they have to go to the toilet, the chair has to be turned for it to get close to the toilet. Then the brakes need to be set after which they can transfer to the toilet seat.

Getting back into the chair is the reverse of the above process and once they are safely back in the wheelchair, they can release the brake and turn around.  There are quite a few steps to this process, which can be frustrating and time consuming.

For those of you who aren’t wheelchair bound should give this a try to see what wheelchair users have to go through every time they have to use the toilet. It is quite challenging!

ADA Equipped Bathrooms

A number of public washrooms are not ADA equipped with sensor-operated faucets, soap dispensers, automatic door openers, toilet flushers or towel dispensers. There will usually be a sign on the door stating that the washroom is equipped for disability use.

Many washrooms aren’t big enough for a wheelchair to fit. So if you are a disabled traveller, you will need to know ahead of time which stops are equipped with ADA washrooms.

More Convenience for Wheelchair Users

Installing automatic dispensers, handrails and sensor-operated tank style toilet flushers in your home bathroom will make things much easier for the disabled person. The best place for the sensor is on the wall behind the toilet.

That way you won’t have to fight with the handle. It is much better hygienically and reduces the spreading of germs. By simply implementing these ideas at home, life will be much easier for the wheelchair user.
