Wheelchairs that are considered “
22 inch” come standard with a
seat width of 22”. This is considered
extra wide when it comes to manual
wheelchairs. The most common
seat width for a
wheelchair is 18 inches, while 16” inch chairs are the second most used.
Weight capacity
The weight cap for 22” chairs is increased and can hold users that weigh more than 250 pounds. One example would be our heavy-duty
wheelchairs, which can go up to 26” in
seat width. The wider the seat is, the more the chair will weigh in some cases.
If you go from 22” to 24” in
seat width, there isn’t that much of a difference in the weight of the chair. If you go from 18” up to 22”, then you will see that the weight of the chair will vary a lot more.
If you are looking for 22-inch
seat width, you should take a look at some of our bariatric, or heavy-duty chairs to get an idea of what model would be suitable for your situation. There are models with different features that cater to different physical conditions that a user may suffer from.
